Olive & Sinclair is a bean-to-bar chocolate maker in Nashville. Slow-roasted and stone ground isn small batches, their chocolate is oh-so-delicious. Sea Salt, Coffee, Mexican Style Cinn-Chili, and superdark 75% Cacao are just some of the flavors you can pick up around town (or order from their website). Soccer in Nashville, you say? YES! Each time pro-soccer plays in Nashville, we break attendance records from the previous appearance. Nashville has seen exhibition games and Olympic-qualifying matches play at LP Field. This time, we’re getting the CONCACAF U-23 Championship, qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games! The US, Canada, El Salvador and Cuba are playing six games over three days this March.
Thursday, March 22: El Salvador vs. Canada @ 5:30pm and USA vs. Cuba @ 8pm

Saturday, March 24: Cuba vs. El Salvador @ 3:30pm and USA vs. Canada @ 6pm

Monday, March 26: Canada vs. Cuba at 5:30pm and USA vs. El Salvador @ 8pm

The teams with the two best records advance to the semifinals in Kansas City.

It may not be Bourbon Street. It’s better! Local brew favorite Yazoo is hosting a Mardi Crawl on Fat Tuesday. Meet at the Beer Sellar (107 Church Street, downtown) at 7pm for the first of 5 stops for the night. Follow the crawl and you’ll end up there, too, at the end of the night for some prize giveaways to the partygoers that hang on for every stop – Mardi Crawl King & Queen, Best Beads and Most Beads. The crawl is free, but you’ll have to pay for drinks, of course. We don’t need be in the bayou. Celebrate Music City style!

The Sanctuary is 160 acres of protected land in northwestern Williamson County, just south of Nashville in Brentwood. Ponds, fields and woods make up the space. Groundhogs, deer, raccoons, turtles and owls live here. And, of course, some amazing plants and flowers. Visitation is by reservation only. But they do have special events that invite guests to the sanctuary. They’re doing a President’s Day Big Tree Hike on Monday, Feb. 20, from 1-3pm. The hike walks you through some BIG trees (older than George Washington!) and you can see stone walls almost as old as the Revolutionary War. The hike is open to all ages. They also host volunteer sessions to help maintain the area. Check their website for details.

Jammin’ at Hippie Jack’s is a live concert series at the Tennessee State Museum that’s taped for the nationwide PBS television series. 30-minute episodes feature original singer/songwriters of Americana, bluegrass, blues and folk music. Who and where is Hippie Jack’s? He’s the guy (along with his wife) that started this whole thing. Americana roots jam sessions at their farm. They started shooting it and producing a show for the smallest affiliate in the country. Six years later, the show’s available to every PBS station in the country! Anyone can go to a show recording. It’s free and open to the public. The next performance taping is tonight with Guy Clark, Eric Brace and Peter Cooper. Doors open at 7pm. Show starts at 7:30pm. Since it’s free, seating is first-come, first-served. So, get their early.
