237.2. Nashville City Cemetery

The Nashville City Cemetery is the oldest continuously operated public cemetery in Nashville. It opened in 1822 and there has since been 20,000 interments there. Four of Nashville’s founders, Revolutionary War and Civil War soldiers, a Tennessee governor, 15 Nashville mayors and the man who named the American flag “Old Glory,” Captain William Driver, are among those buried in this cemetery. It’s like walking through history when you visit the beautiful burial ground. They even host a Living History Tour this coming Saturday, November 5. Costumed guides acquaint you with people of Nashville’s past.
