Nashville was an important and central part of the Civil Rights Movement. A dedication to that legacy lives on the second story of the Nashville Public Library in downtown Music City. The Civil Rights Room features black & white photos highlighting some of the most critical and momentous occasions during this period in Nashville’s history. The circular table in the center of the room symbolizes the lunch counters that served as locations for the influential sit-in demonstrations that began here. The room is a moving tribute and educational experience for all.
