166. Travellers Rest Plantation & Museum

Delve a little deeper into Nashville’s history with a visit to Travellers Rest. Located in the area known as Crieve Hall now, this wooden house was first named Golgotha due to the large number of Native American skulls found when construction first began in 1799. However, by 1808 huge numbers of travellers passing through made the owner Judge John Overton rename his home to Travellers Rest. Now, tours are given regularly of the house, battlefield and gardens. Several events happen throughout the year as well such as camps for kids and re-enactments. For tour hours, check here.

  1. Love the post! I haven’t been there in years, but I always loved the visit. Will have to add it to the schedule when the weather cools off a bit.
