97. Sudekum Planetarium

The Sudekum Planetarium at the Adventure Science Museum (post #31) has a packed schedule to celebrate the long weekend. If you are looking for some fun that the whole family can enjoy, then this is it. The shows run all day and there are three different ones to choose from.

1) The Powerhouse of the Universe: Stars

STARS focuses on the lives of the stars, how they are born, how they die, and how human understanding of the stars has changed over time. From Native Americans to Newton, from the electromagnetic spectrum to Einstein, audiences will explore nebulae, star clusters, pulsars, black holes, and more.

2) Seven Wonders

Most people have heard of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but did they really exist? What were they used for, and what did they look like? Turn back the pages of time and witness these wonders as they may have appeared thousands of years ago.

After looking into the past, fast-forward into the present to experience some of the wonders and awesome beauty of the modern universe.

3) Skies Over Nashville

Skies Over Nashville is a live program in which a planetarium educator shows you how to locate and identify naked-eye seasonal constellations, bright stars, planets and any other interesting sky objects visible on the date of the planetarium visit. You’re invited to ask questions and participate in the show!

Check the website for times. You can also watch a short trailer there as well.

Don’t forget that every second Saturday of the month, the Planetarium puts on a Cosmic Concert. This is a brilliant laser light show with a state of the art, full dome, digital projection and star field that brings the music to life. The show includes music from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. For more information on the concerts go to http://www.sudekumplanetarium.com/saturday/

The grand opening is May 29th, 10am-4pm and the exhibit is open through Sept 6. Click for more details: http://bit.ly/aRAJu1

One Response to 97. Sudekum Planetarium

  1. Hey, Drew from the Planetarium here – thanks for the post! Just a note that STARS finishes its run this Monday. Starting June 1 is “Nine Planets and Counting” – if you’ve ever wondered why so many people debate about Pluto, this is the show to see.

And this summer (starting tonight through September 4), we’re doing laser shows *every* Friday and Saturday night. We hope to see you there!
